If it seems like everyone in your life is on Facebook and you want to know more about it, come to "Facebook for Adults."

We will answer your questions on topics such as:

-What is this Facebook thing?
-How do I sign up?
-How do I find old friends?
-What's a Wall? Newsfeed? Profile? Page?
-How do I get rid of all those farm/zombie games?
-Why doesn't my son/daughter want to be my friend?

You don't need to have a Facebook account to come to the event. No registration necessary.

Due to snow, the Facebook for Adults program will be held on Thursday, March 4th at 7pm.

Get notified that your item has arrived earlier by providing a valid email address that you check frequently. When we have a backlog of requested books, it can take several days for us to notify you by phone.

Make sure that your phone number is a.) correct and b.) local. We cannot call long distance phone numbers. If you do not have a local phone, we can contact you via email.

Placing a request is not immediate. Do not put a request through and say "I will pick this up tomorrow" because that isn't always possible. If you need a book within 1-2 days, you must call the library that owns the book and ask them to look for the item on the shelf. You can pick it up from that library if it is available.

It will take a few days for your available item to get here. Requests placed at the beginning of the week often arrive earlier because there is no delivery on the weekends.

You have two days to pick up the item or it will be sent back to the owning library. (If you receive a call and CANNOT pick up the item in that time frame, we may be able to hold it a day or two longer if you let us know that you will definitely pick up the book on that date).

If you would like your book sent to a library that is the not in the town you live in, you must say "send to _____ library" on every request.

Libraries will not send out RENTAL or NEW DVDs and will often try to keep their DVDs for their own patrons for several weeks/months. Please do not request movies that have not come out yet or have recently come out. If you would like to see the movie, you can call the owning library and see if they will set it aside for you, and you can pick it up there.

Hackensack library does not permit holds on Rental DVDs.

We do not request DVDs we own from other libraries.

You can put holds on adult Hackensack DVDs that are not listed as a rental. We do not permit holds on children's movies.

You are invited to a celebration of Black History Month and the story of JAZZ in America. Shenole Latimer highlights the history of Jazz from the early1900’s to today and explores many jazz artists and their struggles. Musicians like Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane. Shenole will explore the African American roots of jazz and how jazz reflected the cultural phases of the African American experience. An award-winning saxophonist and recording artist, Shenole will do solo sax performances of favorites like Summertime and Body & Soul. Free. No registration required.

The NJ Division of Taxation will no longer be distributing hard copy tax forms.

Printing at Johnson Public Library is $.15 cents per page.

We cannot request an item from a library that they have owned for less than seven days under any circumstances. You can check the date an item was added by clicking on librarian's view in the catalog.

Libraries like to keep new items for their own patrons. Even if the item has been in the catalog for more than a week, a library can refuse your request. You will have more success with your request if you wait a few weeks for items that are not owned by Hackensack.

You can request books that are new or haven't been released yet. If we decide to purchase it, we will put your name on the holds list. If we do not, we will let you know you can request the item after it has come out. You will be notified more quickly if you provide a valid email address with your loan request.

Please Note: You can make three requests per day. Please do not make more than three requests or they will be deleted.

This database trial is available until 11/21 and you can try it out inside the library.
